Content Videos (Lectures and animations to supplement lessons):
Interactives (Online activities for student interaction & practice with content):
- Common Types of Redox Reactions (Learners identify combination, decomposition, displacement, and combustion types of redox reactions. They also watch a video clip that demonstrates the reaction of sodium and water)
- Chemical Reactions: Virtual Lab (students perform and observe different types of chemical reactions by working in a virtual lab environment. This virtual lab will allow you to perform synthesis, single-displacement, and double-displacement reactions)
- Redox Titration in Acidic Medium (students choose oxidizing and reducing agents and perform a virtual titration)
- Electrochemical Cell Experiment 1 (students choose metals and solutions and observe electrochemical interactions)
- Electrochemical Cell Experiment 2 (students have additional choices in metals and solutions than in Experiment 1, and observe electrochemical interactions)
- Electrochemical Cell Experiment 3: Voltaic Cell (students have the additional choice of adjusting the molarity to determine its influence on the electrochemical reactions)
- Electrolysis Simulation (students adjust metals, mass & solutions in this demonstration of electrolysis)
Games (Online games for students to apply & test their content knowledge):
- ChemGameTutor: Electrochemistry (Dr. Despair has captured the top 12 chemists of all time! Students must choose the “Electrochemistry” Level and use their knowledge to set them free!)
- Conductive Polymers! (We have been taught that plastics, unlike metals, do not conduct electricity. Plastic is used as insulation around the copper wires in ordinary electrical cables. Yet, the 2000 Nobel Laureates in Chemistry were rewarded for their revolutionary discovery that plastic can, after certain modifications, be made electrically conductive. In this game, set in year 2025, you are to furnish and decorate a house. You can use all new exciting materials based on conductive polymer technology. When finished with your furnishing you can place your house among others on the Polymer Street. Here you can watch others design and vote for the ones you like best. The most popular houses will win a garden gnome. If you want to save your interior design so others can have a look at it you must get a certificate. To get that you have to answer some questions about conductive polymers)
- Redox Reactions Quiz
- Redox Alien Invaders (students are rewarded for correct answers with a chance to shoot alien invaders from their spaceship!)
- Reaction Identification Practice
- Electrochemistry Terminology Practice
